About the work

Box No. 3 is part of a series of three, each centred on a selected grouping of drawings. Box No. 3 drawings were drawn from an extensive series made in white ink on black paper. These drawings are accompanied by two small pieces in polymer clay and a video entitled ‘Black and white thinking: carousel’. The video is a unique work based on combined footage of light projected through a rotating group of perspex and plywood elements onto a screen. The box as a format is a way of bringing disparate elements into association while leaving open what this association might be.

About the artist

Andrew Farley studied on the MA Fine Art at Camberwell College of Arts before joining the Conditions studio programme in 2018. His practice is a form of expanded drawing in which the embodied activity of drawing/writing generates work (painting, sculpture, sound, video) in other media. In this process he works from a stumbling position somewhere between a clarified strategy and the messy uncertainty of improvisation. He lives in London and in a previous life worked in science and medical imaging.
